Museion is an educational centre that develops and coordinates programs aimed at the creative development of children ages 5 to 18. These programs are built around the museum collections, lectures, and studio hands-on activities, using rich audio, video, and multimedia content.
Since January 2006, Museion has occupied an old downtown estate at 6 Kolymazhnyy Pereulok, bldg 2, a historical architectural landmark dating back to the late 18th - early 20th century.
About 3,000 children participate in Museion programs annually. Our priority programs are: “Family Groups” (children ages 5-7 with parents), “Museum Meetings” (children ages 7-9 with parents), “Conversations about Art” (children ages 8-9), Art Lovers Club (children ages 10-14), and the Young Art Historians Club (8th-11th graders, college students). It is a tradition for each group to celebrate the end of the academic year with theatrical shows.
About 450 people take classes in the Museion Art Studios annually. There is a painting studio for the 5-10 year-olds, a ceramics studio for the 9-13 year-olds, a print studio for the 13-17 year-olds, and a computer graphics studio for the 9-12 year-olds.
During the school year, we hold regular events through the “Museum for Schools” program and organize workshops, and in June we offer the “Summer at the Museum” events. Since 2014, members of the Young Art Historians Club have been taking part in Museum activities, the most popular of which is the annual event “I Will Show You the Museum”.
Traditionally, the Museum gives special attention to programs for children with special needs and children from vulnerable families. Presently, art therapy, a means of using art to promote the social adaptation of children with special needs, is in high demand.
At Museion, we offer training for professionals from different cities, and we implement specialized art therapy programs, in which over 500 children and adolescents are enrolled. The classes are held regularly at least once a month for each group.
