This marble relief depicting a half-figure of a man dressed as a bishop, surrounded by angels, belongs to the hand of one of the most important masters of Italian sculpture of the 13th century. Nicola Pisano was among the first masters of the late Middle Ages who paid attention to the artistic techniques and technologies of Antiquity and is considered the founder of modern sculpture.
