Mikhail Larionov
Still Life. Champagne and Roses

This still life with its remarkably fine colour treatment was produced by Larionov at the end of the 1920s, when the artist was combining work on the design of various ballet productions with private painting. At the same time he also helped to organise an exhibition of contemporary French art at the State Museum of Modern Western Art in Moscow (1928). The elegant combination of different shades of grey and pink in the still life shows Larionov not only as a boId experimenter, but also as an artist with a brilliant command of the brush.
