Daumier, Honoré
Uprising. 1848-1849

Oil on canvas
Friedrich. Goya. Ingres. Delacroix View on the hall's virtual panorama

This canvas, linked with the revolutionary events of 1848 in Paris, conveys most expressively the uncontrollable surge of the revolutionary crowd. The master stresses this by the dynamic figures, tense colour range and sharp contrasts of light and shade. Shortly after it was painted the artist Daubigny acquired it for his collection.
