Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot
A Gust of Wind. Middle 1860 - early 1870-s

Corot has gone down in the history of art as the creator of the "landscape of mood". In A Gust of Wind the dark sky covered with rain clouds, the branches of trees bending in the wind, and the sinister yellow sunset suggest a sense of unease and anxiety. The figure of the woman hurrying along the road personifies man's helplessness in the face of nature when caught in a storm. Subtle transitions of shades merge into an overall silvery-pearl range.
