Paul Cézanne
Peaches and Pears. 1890-1894

In his mature period Cézanne concentrated on experiments with arranging objects. He created dynamic compositions contrasting three-dimensional, geometrical objects (plates, fruit) with flat, coloured ornament (patterns on textiles, wallpaper and china). The objects travelled from one picture to another, some of them have survived and are on display in the artist's studio-museum in Aix. Сézanne's still-life works of this period are similar to his landscapes: the folds of the white tablecloth against the background of the white-blue wall rise and fall at sharp angles like the mountains of Aix.
