Joan Miró
Composition. 1927

Miró's individual style developed in an atmosphere of artistic lotteries and performances rich in philosophical implications. The weird images on his canvases resemble children's drawings or ancient pictograms.Laconic artistic signs were equated by the artist with human desires and instincts receding into the sphere of the unconscious. In 1925 Miro was invited to take part in the first exhibition of Surrealist painting held in the Galerie Pierre. He became one of the most striking exponents of this trend in art.
